Day 56

My nephew Markus is coming down from Toronto on Saturday, so I decided to make some Sesame Street cake pops for him since he loves Elmo. I hope he likes them!

And here they all are in the back room closet, where it's nice and cool and little boys can't see them ;)

Day 55

This is the winter wonderland we woke up to this morning. It looks beautiful, doesn't it?

Alex tried to replicate this scene in the kitchen with some baby powder...*sigh* not quite as beautiful.

Day 54

I coloured some water with food colouring today and sprayed the snow outside a bunch of different colours. When Ryan got home I told him it snowed rainbows. I think he believed me for a split second :P Here is his name that I did...

Stupid blogger is loading my pics sideways again *sigh* Does anyone know how to fix this?

Letting him in on the secret...

Day 51

This is how the boys wound down tonight...

Buried in diapers

A spin around the kitchen in the stroller, and then it's bedtime.
and I made Dad clean it all up :P

Day 50

Ryan was thrilled to get some new snow last night. Everything had been melting so much that the last few weeks we hadn't been able to go sledding at all. The minute he came home from school, he grabbed the shovel and started making new sled paths all down the front yard.

Day 49

Today I didn't think I would get any interesting shots, so I started with a picture of my cat Roscoe in case nothing else interesting came up. I usually don't see much of him, he's a little weird as he was dropped down the stairs by his mom when he was a week or 2 old. He likes to hide out in the basement a lot, so it was a good opportunity to finally get a nice picture of him.

But then as I was making supper, Ryan and I started making faces in the pot of cooking pasta. I grabbed my camera again to take these pictures of him which totally cracked him up. It's awesome when the little things like this become so much fun.

Day 48

I spent a better part of the day cleaning up the bay window in the kitchen. There was just stuff everywhere... cat food, cat hair, kids toys, tools, dirt from the plants, it was terrible. I gave the windows a good cleaning, took down the old x-mas lights outside, fixed the blind, and re-potted a bunch of plants (I've been pulling cactus needle splinters out of my hands all evening, youch!). It looks great now, I don't think it has been this clean in a long time.

Day 47

Today we went through Vankleek Hill, "The gingerbread capitol of Ontario!". There is a mural just off one of the roads that I love looking at. Every time I see it, I notice all kinds of different small details, so this time I took a picture of it so I could see them all. I think my favourites are the dog peeing against the tree, and the old guy looking back at me with binoculars.

Day 46

I was so looking forward to today because a technician from a new high speed company in the area was coming to check if we could get a signal for high speed. They had set up a tower in the next town over not too long ago, and we were really confident that we had a clear and unobstructed view to it. But, when the guy got here, he started testing in the other direction. Wally asked what was up, and he said the tower in the next town failed and that it was being scrapped. Nooooo! No signal for us, we are just surrounded by too many tall trees.

Here is Wally and the tech guy checking out the tree line on the back deck.

Day 45

This morning I surprised the boys with heart shaped pancakes.

We then took them out skating for a few hours, and when we got back, I made them some cupcakes. I just wanted any excuse to use the new frosting tips and sprinkles I bought 2 weeks ago.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Day 44

I made these naughty fortune cookies today for Wally for Valentine's Day. I'll let you use your imagination as to what the fortunes inside say ;)

Day 43

My 3 cats who are brothers, and pure white, were sitting together on the window ledge enjoying the heat of the baseboards. I haven't gotten a picture of all three of them since they were practically kittens (they are now about 12 years old) so I grabbed the camera and got these shots.

L-R: Cosmo (Fozzy), Casper (Chub-Chub) and Calvin

Day 42

Ryan's valentines for the kids at school are all ready to go. The one in the middle is for his best friend Meagan. All the cards got a little heart sticker but for hers, he put an I in front of it and a U behind it. Awwwww!

For some reason blogger will only load this picture sideways, even after I've rotated it a few times in my photo program. I'm too tired, and it's too late to keep trying to fix it...

Day 41

Getting cut off by the noon express

This has been up just down the road for a few months now. I think this means a movie or TV show is being filmed here.

My lunch: Strawberries and cream, cheese curds, sea salt and rosemary foccacia bread, and Hungarian salami. Yum!

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Day 40

These dolls dressed in traditional Dutch costumes used to sit on display at the Dutch embassy in Montreal where my mom used to work. The office closed down this past summer, and on the weekend they were passed down to me.

Day 39

Here's one thing I will never be doing again...ice skating! I have not been skating since I was about 13 or 14 years old. We're talking about 22 years here. I figured it would be like riding a bike...once you get back on, you never forget. Hell no! I fell down a few times, and held on to the walls and goal nets for dear life.My husband who hasn't skated in over 35 years just got back on the ice like he hadn't left. I ended up falling on a hip, hurting my wrist and smashing my thumb knuckle in the rink gate. Anyone want a free pair of ice skates? I'm pretty much sore all over now.

Les boys...

Hubby was so kind as to take a picture of me flailing around on the ice. I swear, when I got to the car, I kissed my boots. I was never so happy to walk on solid ground.

Day 38

Today we went into the 'burbs to visit my parents. The boys had a great time playing with Opa's trains. This was the first time Alex was allowed down in the train room as he is grabby and the trains are not toys. He was really good though and loved watching the "choo choo's" going around.

We did a little shopping, and hit what I consider a little piece of heaven on earth....The Bulk Barn!

After a long day, we picked up some pizza and stopped at a gas bar on our way back home.

Day 37

I suppose we all saw this coming...

Friday, February 5, 2010

Day 36

I spotted this little fox nosing around in the snow on my drive today.

This truck also caught my eye and made me turn around to take a picture. The green just stood out so nicely against the white of the snow.

Day 35

I did some research online on how best to build an outdoor shelter for the 2 strays here, and found out that styrofoam is the best insulator because it holds in heat. The light bulb then went off, and I remembered that my husband deals with shipping of live fish and always gets great styrofoam insulated boxes at work. I asked him to bring some home and set this little spot up on the porch. The walls are almost 2 inches thick, the inside is lined with a layer of cedar woodchips, and then a layer of newspaper over that. Nice and toasty warm. The middle is just a smaller box turned on it's side to keep a roof over their food bowls to keep the snow out of them.

The cats love it :)

Day 34

I tried out my new edible ink markers by making these little marshmallow sticks for the kids today.Nothing special, but they were well received.
