Day 327

I spotted this broach at the second hand store in their jewellery case and I had to have it. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful green colour. It's missing one or 2 gems, but nothing crucial. I'm not sure what to do with it yet. I'll definitely keep it as one piece because I think it's antique, but I'm thinking of maybe attaching it to a hair comb or something.

Day 174

Ryan forgot to give some cards to his teachers, so we cruised by his school today to drop them off. On the way home we stopped at this old water tower near some railway tracks. It started to pour rain so we couldn't explore it, I only managed to take a quick picture. The town is now pretty much dead, but I guess back in the old days it was a big stop where steam trains refilled with water. There are 2 tracks so I guess more than one line came through.

Day 158

In the summer, the flea market in Lachute, Qc is open every Tuesday. We cruised up there today hoping to find some treasures. Mainly, we were looking for an old victorian doorbell for the house, and some Where's Waldo books for Ryan. I managed to score four new Peterson's guides on mammal, fish, bird, and reptile identification for $15, and Wally picked up a few old books as well. No luck on the doorbell and Waldo books though.

Day 149

More garage sales today. I love that even Ryan has started to enjoy the garage sale hunt. His comments from the back seat are hilarious when we scope out a sale.."That's just old people stuff...", "It's all baby stuff, no big boy toys, keep driving!"

I picked up this vintage Spirograph for $2. Though it has been used, everything is still inside. I priced it online and it's worth about $40. Score!

I also got this train set out of a free pile. The styrofoam part inside was put in backwards so all you could see in the windows were tracks. I didn't think it was complete, and figured I'd just let the kids use the tracks for their trains at home. To my surprise, when I opened it up at home, it was totally complete and unused. The trains were heavy too, not plastic junk, so I packed it up properly and put it in the closet out of reach of little hands, and there it will stay, until December, when I will set it up under our Christmas tree. :)

Day 101

 I spotted on old dump site in the woods on an old back road on the way to the grocery store today. When we were heading back home, I had Wally stop so I could walk in and take a look. It's one of the bigger dump sites I have seen around here, there were bottles every where, old appliances, shoes, etc.. I'm guessing the stuff was from around the 40's or 50's. I have to get back there one day soon (possibly tomorrow) with some good boots, gloves and a digging tool. I got honked at by Wally after about 10 minutes so I grabbed these bottles and headed back to the car.

Day 90

This is a cross stitch that I inherited. It was made by my step-grandmother in 1931.
