Day 323

Today I needed to pick up some new carpeting for the stairs at a near by store. On Wednesday we got the flyers and the one from this store said that "Santa" was going to be there greeting kids and giving them a little toy today. So I packed up the kids and braved the crazy winds. Alex ran right up going "Santa! Santa!" and he gave Santa a big hug. Last years Santa was a bit scary and Ryan was apprehensive about seeing him again, but they got a new guy this year and Ryan was a lot more at ease with him. One of the employees took some pictures of the boys, and she will send them to me by email. This is the one I got before they wanted to open their present.

Day 317

Shopping today, the kids were thrilled to get the rocket cart at Zellers.

Day 282

My new Roadrunner jeans. They are the best fitting, most comfy jeans ever! And they come with a free belt :)

Day 255

As we did our shopping today, Alex got quieter and quieter. At one point he just rested his head on the handle of the cart and just stared off into space. I checked his forehead and he was burning up. By the time we got to the check out line a few minutes later, he was fast asleep. The poor pooper ended up with a 39.7 fever, his nose got all congested and he started coughing. He'll be going to bed early tonight!

Day 213

I managed to find all the supplies Ryan needs for school. He has a few new items of clothing, new underwear, new shoes, he's ready to go! 29 more days to go, baby!

Day 188

Today we took a 2 hour road trip to a dutch store up near Ottawa. I insisted we take my car because the A/C in Wally's van doesn't work, and hello heat! It can't get any hotter, check out my thermometer:

We took a different route this time and passed through a few towns we had never been to before.

I made Wally stop the car to take a picture of this sign, it just cracked me up. Look out for all those old people wandering the streets!

Here we are! It takes us 2 hours to get here and we're in and out in 15 minutes before we're back on the road again.

One last stop at the cheese factory to get some curd, or as Ryan has dubbed it, "squeaky cheese". We took a look inside at them making these cheese and then I embarrassed him outside by making him pose with the cow. "Mom!" Heh heh heh...

Day 158

In the summer, the flea market in Lachute, Qc is open every Tuesday. We cruised up there today hoping to find some treasures. Mainly, we were looking for an old victorian doorbell for the house, and some Where's Waldo books for Ryan. I managed to score four new Peterson's guides on mammal, fish, bird, and reptile identification for $15, and Wally picked up a few old books as well. No luck on the doorbell and Waldo books though.

Day 122

We made our first big purchase from Kijiji today. We've missed a bunch of really good meat specials at the grocery store lately because we just didn't have room in our freezer, so we decided to try to find a bigger second hand deep freezer for a cheap price. We picked this one up in the next town over for $60. Not a bad score I think :)

Going through town to get the freezer, I spotted this on somebody's lawn. Um...ok?

Around dinner time, Wally and I went to look at the gardens outside. He sat on the porch for a second and suddenly yelled out "Babe! Go get it! Run! Go get it!" I looked at him all confused and half paniced thinking to myself "Go get what?" Then I see what he is looking at and follow his eyes to the end of the driveway where a big turtle was trying to go into the puddle/pothole at the end of our driveway. I ran over and grabbed him because I didn't want him to get hit by a car. We've seen smushed turtles on the road before as they have tried to cross over from the lake across the street.

Here's his close-up. This guy really stank. I was surprised at how smelly he was. He also had 2 huge leeches attached to him which we plucked off before we let him go into the lake across the street.

Ryan was fascinated but didn't want to get too close to him after we told him that it could bite his finger right off.

But he did get a kick out of the turtle hissing at us...

After torturing the turtle enough with the camera, we took him across the street to the lake where he would be safe, and let him go. At least he has a great, crazy story to tell all his turtle friends.

Day 53

Day 38

Today we went into the 'burbs to visit my parents. The boys had a great time playing with Opa's trains. This was the first time Alex was allowed down in the train room as he is grabby and the trains are not toys. He was really good though and loved watching the "choo choo's" going around.

 

  

We did a little shopping, and hit what I consider a little piece of heaven on earth....The Bulk Barn!

  

After a long day, we picked up some pizza and stopped at a gas bar on our way back home.

 

Day 33

We went on a little road trip today without the kids and my feet were just freezing. At one point I took my socks off and laid them over the centre heater vent, and stuck my feet over the vent on my side. Ahh toasty warm again.

 

Wally and I also scored some second hand skates for ourselves and Alex so that we can now join Ryan on the ice.

Day 21

This is the lone flower on an African Violet I picked up at the grocery store. The poor thing was sitting with a friend on a discount shelf for .99 cents. They looked so pathetic and I knew if I didn't take them home, they would probably either die, or be thrown out...so I brought them both home. Yes, I actually felt sorry for a plant.

Day 18

Ryan woke up fever free and feeling great, so we got up as usual, and got ready for school. Outside we got to watch some action as we waited for the bus. 

 

We live at the bottom of a curved hill, someone was coming down too fast at 4 am and tried to avoid a raccoon. The road was really icy this morning so the raccoon unfortunately ended up getting creamed, and the driver ended up in our ditch.

 

Driving into the abyss...it looks awfully desolate out here when it's misty out.

  

Alex shows some love for his new Transformers, even as he sleeps. Man, shopping is hard work.

Day 17

The local depanneur. What do people call these little stores in the rest of Canada? A corner store? A mini mart? I have no idea.

 

My purchases. Milk for the kids, celery for the guinea pigs, booze for Mom, and a lotto ticket for luck.

 

Decided that the fort needed a look out tower.

 

Ryan went to a birthday party today and came back with a slight fever. By bedtime it was already up to 38.7. Looks like he might be staying home from school tomorrow.

Day 11

Today I couldn't pick just one picture, so I'm going to cheat and post more than one. I seem to be taking a bunch of pictures throughout the day for this project, and I'm having a hard time choosing which one will make it on the blog, so from now on you may see more than one a day.

On today's adventure I spotted some wild turkey-lurkeys in the fields.

Day 4

Today's grocery haul. At the store I had bent down to get something off of a lower shelf, and the guy beside me farted right in my face. I just about choked and died on the spot.
