Day 153

Oops! I posted about day 154 before 153, I guess that's what happens when you fall behind on your blog, you get all mixed up!

Nothing too exciting for day 153...Alex came up with a new use for his pull-ups since we have been doing potty training, and for dinner I had made a marinated pork loin with spicy dijon potatoes and spring peas.

Day 154

This morning when I work up, Ryan eagerly greeted me with a piece of paper and said:

"Here Mom, I drew you a picture"
"Oh thank you!"
"It's you! You're all stinky because you didn't take a shower yet."
"Oh...and who's that? *I point to the other stick figure*"
"That's me! I'm sticking out my tongue going "Bllleeehhhh!!" because you smell so bad"

 

Kids...they just warm the cockles of your heart, don't they?

I also took a drive out to a little dutch store way out in the country. On the way there I passed this tiny little cemetary on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere with 5 graves. There isn't a town, or a church, or anything near by. Makes you wonder why these graves are here...

Day 152

This is the view you get driving in the country. Sometimes you're just forced to slow down and smell the...cow butts?

Day 151

Today was a lazy day at home. I was reclined in my chair with my feet up and crossed over my legs. Alex kept trying to get my attention and suddenly popped up between my crossed legs. I thought it looked hilarious so I grabbed the camera beside me on my desk and snapped this picture.

Day 150

Ryan and Alex braved the frigid water today and had a splashing contest in the pool.

One of the perks of having pork chops for dinner is that you can fry up the trimmed fat and it tastes pretty much like bacon. A little salt, a little pepper, and you've got bacony goodness in your tummy.

Day 149

More garage sales today. I love that even Ryan has started to enjoy the garage sale hunt. His comments from the back seat are hilarious when we scope out a sale.."That's just old people stuff...", "It's all baby stuff, no big boy toys, keep driving!"

I picked up this vintage Spirograph for $2. Though it has been used, everything is still inside. I priced it online and it's worth about $40. Score!

I also got this train set out of a free pile. The styrofoam part inside was put in backwards so all you could see in the windows were tracks. I didn't think it was complete, and figured I'd just let the kids use the tracks for their trains at home. To my surprise, when I opened it up at home, it was totally complete and unused. The trains were heavy too, not plastic junk, so I packed it up properly and put it in the closet out of reach of little hands, and there it will stay, until December, when I will set it up under our Christmas tree. :)

Day 148

The boys and I cruised around town today looking for some garage sales. Nearby there was a community yard sale where they had some bouncy castles set up for the kids. The kids however were more interested in the fire truck they had there. They were checking it out when a fireman offered to let them sit in the drivers seat. Ryan got to turn on the sirens and blow the alarm horns. Alex was excited, but also a bit nervous.

I found some toys and books for the boys, and for myself, I found this silver bracelet. It was a steal for only $1

For dinner tonight, Dutch croquettes with an Asparagus and Emmental Cheese Tart

Day 147

I usually don't spit my gum out the window, but I had cleaned out my car the day before and forgot to put in another garbage bag. My gum was getting horribly stale, and my jaw was getting sore from chewing it, so I rolled down my window and *ptoui!* Only I could make a shot like this. I had to drive home with it like this until I could get a kleenex and dispose of it.

Dinner tonight was a chicken, bacon and pasta casserole

and for dessert, a strawberry tart a la mode

Day 146

Alex has figured out how to get into our drawers, and how to open the lock on our oven. We didn't figure this out until I was pre-heating the oven and came back into the kitchen to find smoke pouring out of it. This is all that is left of my spatula...thanks Alex.

Ya, I know, it's another kitten picture...but it was either this or a picture of a dead deer on the side of the road. I think I chose wisely.

"Hey Alex, I hate to tell you this, but, the Habs lost last night..."

Tonights supper was chicken alfredo with roasted veggies.

Day 143

I can't help it, I'm falling in love with Julian. The one thing I hate about helping and rescuing cats, is getting attached to them. How could you not fall in love with this face?

Day 142

Wally and I bored out of our minds on day 2 of our garage sale. We made a measly $27 today. No more garage sales for us.

Day 141

Today was the big garage sale day, and it was a bust :(  The minute 9am rolled around, the skies opened up and started raining on us. We had to scramble to cover up all our stuff, all my tags got smudged, and of course it kept the people away. At one point my parents came by and they let me know that our big sign by the main highway road was down. This was the sign I was counting on bringing in most of the people, so I had to hop in the car and try to pound it back into the ground. By the time my parents left and got back home, they had let me know that the sign was back down again. I had to make up a huge contraption held down by a big patio slab. Another highlight was seeing a skunk run across the yard, and ending up sun burnt again even though I was under an umbrella almost the whole time.

Look at all this crap we're trying to get rid of! LOL
